eBay/Amazon dropshipping in 2017 status?

Howdy ya'll..

It's been a while since I have been active here. The last time was early 2016 and eBay selling via Amazon as a dropshipper was a hot topic.. is that still the case?

Back then I was testing the concept and it was working well. I am about to have much more time on my hands again and thinking of rebooting...

Is it still working for people? Are there still profit or shall I try and find something else?

Absolutely it is still relevant. In Ebay UK there is plenty of Amz dropshippers, and although there is certain rules to follow you can still make a decent profit on a monthly basis

Drop shipping will always be around if you can source the right product at the right price. The window to make good money in website to website arbitrage for most people is closing fairly fast because price discovery is becoming more transparent all the time. You will always be able to drop ship non-fungible goods.

Depends on what the product is. Some you will have success with and others, not so much.

Ok cool guys - thanks for the validation.

For me it is mainly a tech related project as well as business. I am actually building out my own platform that should operate at scale.

Just a sidebar question. Considering all the components that make up a successful dropshipping platform, I wonder what components could I break out and offer as a service to other dropshippers.

For example, realtime price change updates from Amazon, Amazon auto order, eBay buyer risk assessment (are they likely to be scammers?)

IMO, you'd make far more money if you used the system yourself to dropship or keep the program proprietary and offer it to large dropshippers. I have been offered one of those proprietary eBay integration programs for $20K and I was told that this was low end.

Cool, I guess that it makes sense. If I could identify a few of those guys. It makes sense to have less customers to deal with.

Was that a dropshipping system or general enterprise scale management of sales.. You don't DS right? I remember from your other thread..?

More people use the system, less of an edge it is. If you discover any inefficiency that can be exploited that will either be patched by eBay/Amazon or everybody will start doing it. Basically I was interested in an inventory/order management solution after seeing a friendly competitor's $200K custom setup. I don't drop ship but I drop ship for others and I import/export so keeping track of inventory is one of my biggest concerns, since being able to ship everything every day is mission critical.

I see, do you ever have any problems with scam buyers? Could you use a tool that will look at a buyer and determine the risk based on a number of various factors .. i.e. Feedback, order items anomaly (lot's of the same item) etc. Would that be useful / does it exist?

I sell moderately high risk items and I think losses to scams are fairly manageable if you only ship to addresses given to you by eBay/Amazon and follow their policies to the letter. Many of the problems are because sellers don't follow policy guidelines. For example, look at how many people get all upset after they get scammed after they sold intangible goods, for which eBay policy clearly says there's no seller protection when buyer files any kind of claim.
