Personally, I love Davinci Resolve. Use it everyday and it's a powerful free editing software that has a bunch of free resources online that you can learn from, including youtube.

I'd advise Camtasia Studio. Not much effects like in Sony Vegas or Adobe AE, but good for the beginning, if you ain't Spielberg.

DaVinci Resolve is a professional video editing suite that is superior to Adobe and it is FREE. It is used to edit and color grade Hollywood movies. (There is a paid version that adds features useful to video production companies that you won't need.)

Black Magic Design offers the software for free as a way to sell their hardware. They make video cameras, cinema cameras, and video editing control pannels.

While it isn't the easiest video editing software to use, there are a couple of advantages.

• Support and development will continue, unlike some opensource projects.
• The software is stable (unlike Adobe) and can be run on Windows, Mac, or Linux.
• It is easy to find tutorials on YouTube.
