i use this method to get targeted traffic from gumtree to my auction site, but you can mix it up to suite whatever you need

on the bottom of gumtree is a link to "popular searches"
it shows the most popular searches. duh
its always stuff like iphones, playstation 3, fridge (yeah, fridge is almost always there)

obviously any ad containing any of these items is going to get a lot of views.

so..

i post adverts for all the most popular things. in the advert i say "make me an offer". this usually gets a lot more responses than having a normal price, or even a low price (people can smell bullshit)

then i set up a gmail account, with vacation responder on saying "i have posted the iphone/playstation3/fridge/whatever on www.mywebsite.com - you can buy it from there"

thats it

the traffic is good, because people were looking to buy stuff online, and now they are just being shown another buy online site

I have also used this same method in the past with great success to promote adult affiliates, such as dating sites by posting in the "woman seeking man" section, also with a gmail autoresponder saying something like "whoa, to many replies! i cant send everyone pics, so please check out my profile on www.datingsiteyourpromoting.com to see some sexy pics)

automation is the key in making easy money online, and something as simple as a classifieds site and gmail vacation responder can make you a lot of money, no fancy tools needed!

Do you have a reading comprehension problem?

ROFL I laughed a lot at that :)

Thanks for the share OP, I will be implementing this... although I dont have items to sell :\ but I got my own twist ;)

How are you getting them to post direct to you and not through the gumtree "reply to ad" option?

If they are using the above, how do you get gmail to autorespond direct to their email and not the gumtree forms?

Assuming you are putting your email addy in the advert? - is this right?

Yes how are you doing this as auto responder as the gumtree email is from them not the person who messaged you?

Thunderbird probably

No I know how to auto respond. The problem is that the message comes in the form of an email from gumtree not the person who sent the messages email. So the reply would go to gumtree not the person who sent the message.

Gumtree is getting smart at holding repetitive emails and finding spam

you don't see the popular searches anymore in gumtree
i might be because this thread is 2-3 years old
