Lets say i search a keyword and it comes up with low competition but alot of searches and a high cpc rate. But then i search on google and there are millions/hundreds of thousands of results when i search the keyword in the quotation marks. since adwords said it has low competition does this REALLY mean that you can rank up easily?

Analyze the search results that come up for the search term. If the term is just randomly appearing in articles/blogs and not enough competition focusing the exact search term then you have window of opportunity.

If you are using GKWT, you want high competition, thats how many advertisers there are for your keyword, just sayin. Only look at the top 10, thats all that matters. Check their backlinks and their backlink quality. Can you build more backlinks at the same quality?

When you research the Keyword in Google Keyword Tool (assuming that's what you're using,) are you remembering to ensure that the 'Exact' box is ticked on the left hand side as opposed to the 'Broad' box.
If you don't have this done as Step #1 you can research until you're blind but will still fall head first into trouble.
Exact - not Broad.
