Great method, thanks again Meathead! One thing which I wanted to add which I did not see on here (I hope I didn't just miss it) is to check out the resources the products (for example Clickbank stuff) provide for affiliates. Some of them will have keyword lists which are tested and will work for the product and niche. Take those keywords and put them into G Alerts. Hope this can help some people. Once I get this going steadily I will post again with results.

I tried this method for 8 weeks, without success at the beginning of the year. I remember replying in this thread that it didn't work for me back in February - however Meathead was kind enough to check out the site I made and basically told me I was doing it wrong, what I had built wasn't a review site at all. I ended up doing something else entirely after that, writing my own books and selling them online - and put this on the back-burner to return to at a later date.

Things are now self-sufficient with my ebook sales, and as one of my sites is no longer being used I have decided to give this another try. I've changed the website I no longer use into a "digital products review" site and will be filling it up with reviews on products in the next few days, then setting up the g-alerts for the niches I choose, I'll post the results here.
 
Thanks to the OP and I agree with the posts complementing this method. I've set my blog etc. as stated in the description. I have made some reviews regarding several products and made some blog comments with links. I've had loads of clicks on the product ads, albeit no sales yet. Still, it's early days (two in fact) yet.

Anyone got tips for finding popular products. I've gotten some from CB and a couple from Amazon Associates, but no sales. I've tried a variety of different ones, but all relating to the blog.

I figured out a sneaky thing to do, after you've made a post to a blog or forum a few days previously. I studied Google Analytics to find out which is the highest referring post. I then go back to that blog and make post under a different name, referring to the previsous post. Something like - "I agree with [somebody] about what you said. Oh - and the link that B.... posted was really helpful." I've done this and I'm getting quite a few more referrals from the same site.

I think this would be cool with facebook as well, find some groups related to your niche and then contact the owner, give them a like for your review of the product etc.
 
Quick update after a week of testing this. Took 3-4 days to design the review website and added 10 reviews of products in 5 different niches. Really took the extra time to write decent reviews that engage the reader, made sure I explained what the website was about and also made sure one of the reviews was a bad one, simply because I think the product is crap - even though it has a grav on clickbank of over 500. Hopefully this will give a more "honest" feel to the site.

Been commenting on blogs/forums/press releases that come through g-alerts for the last 3 days and traffic is up to around 25 uniques a day from 0. So far only a few hops, no sales. Will update again next week, hopefully with better news.

I would suggest you not to give up , i have generated good traffic through these method . Keep re-checking everything and make sure you ain't doing anything wrong .
 
I've got issues with Google Alerts. Not sure if i dare say this on here - but I didn't know it existed, and I've been on the web since 1998. But yea, I decided to target specific keywords that were highly ranked in Adwords: Keyword tool. However, for many of them, I'm not getting any results even after 3 days. I've also tried the "Blog" option lately and that seems to be reducing hits. What are optimal settings and keyword "styles" for Google Alterts?

Let's say you have written a review for a product called LOSE WEIGHT FATTY
My alerts will be something like:
"Lose weight fatty" (with quotes to target people talking about the product)
Diet and weight loss (Niche, without quotes to get max alerts in the niche)
"Get thin in 2 weeks" (which might be a competitor product)

Then set alerts to "all results" and "as it happens".

Doing that for each product gives me about 30 different alert types, and around 150 alerts a day to try and post a link on.
 
I decided to give this a break to start my MNS, but I logged into my e-mail to see i made my first sale!!!!!! Although I have a few products on my site, I was really promoting only one and the sale I made wasn't even for that one i was promoting, but for something else on my site. I am going to go back to this next week and try promoting the product that sold.

This method works people, you just need to post useful stuff on the forums so you seem credible. Don't just write, "Visit this site to solve your bleeding weiner problem!" but explain why its happening and what could be done.

One thing I noticed is after posting hard on various forums and YA, traffic is just trickling in without my doing any posts for the past few days.
