Easiest SSP to get into?

SSP as in? Subscription Service Provider? Statutory Sick Pay?
If the first one, try paddle. I got to implement them in a new project, and everything worked perfectly fine till now. Pretty easy to integrate, and they manage all the complications for you (e.g. tax, invoice, notification email, coupons and so on)
Not associated though.

It depends a lot on your volumes. How much are we talking about?
If you are looking for under 100K MAU you may probably prefer to stick to Google Ads, or Mediavine (advertiser-wise, 50K MAU tho) that are pretty straightforward.
Personally, I know the people from Teads and is pretty straightforward to join also, but seriously without an adequate volume, it's 0% worth.

We're talking about 5m impressions/mo with main GEOs being US, UK and DE. This traffic is from unofficial smart tv apps (non-google play) so it's a bit difficult to get into any SSP. We're currently monetising though some shady networks at super low CPMs.

This is the most important part to know. Unless those markets are somewhat like Cydia (likely from what I read), with such traffic I would directly try to go for Xandr, which is friendly for download-based pages.
But if you host any degree of piracy, then you will have to stick with such monetization platforms, mostly shady as you suggest, and very poorly paying, barely cents per mille.
