I just started using Squidoo for a couple of reasons.
1st is in IL Amazon will not allow affiliates (tax reasons), so there are a couple of items that I have an ecomerce site for and also have listed on Amazon. My understanding is that you have to have at least some advertising on your lens for Squidoo to make the money back for hosting (blah, blah, blah). So I am writing a lens that points back to my ecomerce site and that also has a link to Amazon where the product is also located.
2nd is that the Authority of Squidoo is already trusted by Google (so far) and the way they allow internal linking helps with ranking.
I'm creating different profiles for each category so I can keep everything separate and then my lens all revolve around the same vertical.
I also understand that you can backlink your lens harder and faster then you could a stand alone site since Squidoo gets 1,000's a backlinks a day.
