e-commerce platform suggestions?

I'm browsing for an e-commerce platform for a new site. I will be selling web based services and need a quality customer area for clients to view the status of their orders, which may need to updated periodically depending on the service prior to completing the order.

I was considering building a site that integrates both magento and wordpress. If anyone has suggestions of other platforms with a great customer area and order management please let me know.

My earnest inputs are; X-cart and Shopify. Both are pretty reputable.

I would avoid wordpress if you intend to scale your business beyond just a few orders here and there. It's a blog platform not well suited to ecommerce.

Magento is good or have you considered opencart?

My site will be offering more than just a store so I want to use a scalable CMS like WP as well.

Woocommerce is an alternative. What's your thoughts?

I've used WooCommerce in the past I wasn't the biggest fan, gave me the impression of something that was held together by duct tape and paperclips if that makes sense.

Woocommerce is the best decision if you are planning on not having a huge store. If you have many products & categories go for Magento or Open Cart.

Personally, I'd recommend against Woocommerce for an ecommerce focussed website. Check out Opencart, Shopify & Magento. I've recently started a Shopify website (never thought I would use Shopify) - I've found a dope theme which is enough motivation to start my girlfriend's eCommerce store (yes I know ). Also Shopify's user interface is specifically built for eCommerce, I'm liking it right now even though it's a whole new CMS to learn.

Also just a tip, even though I've only bought 1 Shopify theme, is not to go and buy themes from Shopify that cost $200 USD or something ridiculous like that (and are mediocre), but you can find awesome themes on Themeforest for Shopify.

Both Shopify, Opencart & Magento have very sexy and easy cart/checkout systems, whereas Woocommerce is quite bland - just my personal preference

Woocommerce is top of the best alternative.
