E- Comm Seo

Just thought of a new tactic to use. As every category is somewhat different when it comes to SEO, it might be a good idea to look at the other big and pervasive player throughout your niche. Go to AHREFS and get a full site backlink report for this competitor and research it. See the anchor text, see the number of links, the type of links, etc. See what patterns you can spot (if any) and especially take advantage if it is natural SEO rather than BH.

I am lucky because I'm working through an affiliate program. My niche is quite good and under served and I'm going to actually try to outrank my affiliate's site. Therefore, they have the exact same goods as me and the same keywords. I'm in the process of culling through the link report now, but it looks encouraging. They're on the first page / spot for many major KW and their total BL profile is 11K.

Time to get to work. :)

Really Great article.
Not sure if I missed this one, but on Magento backend, do you have to put all the meta tags for each single product on the website?

Thanks

Silo structures work very well for me in wordpress sites. Now that I have a magento website, I'm having such a problem creating a silo structure. I can't imagine doing it manually with it. Does anyone have an idea of simplifying the process.

this was a great guide by the way.

Like I said in the OP I am not a designer but yes I go to each product and do custom meta

I do my silo by creating an blog page or articles page or helpful info page and then make a category like "small widget" in that category I write all my small widget articles and then the articles have links in them pointing to some of my small widgets. This way when google finds my content they might rank it and when the viewer sees it they can read the article and hopefully click on the product link in the article, if they do that I have a chance to sell that small widget.

Really nice guide and a very interesting read. I run a e-commerce site (noticed you're on Magento too!) and SEO is hard work but very satisfying when it pays off and you see your product rising in the SERPS. I have found that a decent video certainly drives traffic to product pages.

Thanks for the share OP, and to those that contributed.

I hope you can help with the following questions:
How many Web 2.0's do you create? Does each web 2.0 need to be unique? as in different author, IP address etc...

You create an article about "why buy red widgets" and post it to a web 2.0, do you then take that same article and post it to your other web 2.0's? Or is that pointless because it is duplicate content?

How many articles do you write around each KW... 10-15 articles per month on "why buy red widgets"? Or do you only need the one article on "why buy red widgets" then move on to next KW?

I have 1 personal ecomm site, that is only getting around 20 -30 hits per week, dismal I know, it has a 6% conversion rate, when scaled up to 2,000 visits per week it will be a decent earner for sure!

It is starting to drive me bonkers, trying to get that traffic...

Good post OP, thanks. Quick question about the articles, do you place them on web 2.0s or on the website you're trying to rank (as fresh content)?

I am planning to have an ecommerce site up and running on magento.
Is there anything to watch out for with the design part of it?

Been a while since I visited this post but the question you 2 guys seem to have is where do I post the articles and are they unique. 1st YES the articles are unique, I have writers that do anywhere from 5-15 articles per week that I use in random places. The best of the best go on the site and they are usually related to a product we carry. The pretty good ones I try to get on other peoples blogs in the form of guest posts and the ones that are just ok I put on Web 2.0's

The next question was how many web 2.0's? I cannot answer that with 100% accuracy. 1st the web 2.o's are not just 1 article with a link, they are usually 5 articles of which only one maybe 2 will have links. Unique content of course so google likes it. So how many of those do you build? 5 might be ok or it might be 20, it depends on your competition of course.

You can probably put together 1 web 2.0 per day just by spending 2-3 hours on it. In 30 days you have 30 web 2.0's all with quality content on it.

I want to restate that articles can be similar topics but they still should be unique. You can accomplish this be reading an article and rewriting it in your own words or super spinning articles. The former I have done, the latter I have not but I have seen some pretty impressive TUT's on this site regarding super spun articles.

I am not a web developer, we have a guy for that. All I do is the SEO and if I need something tweaked or fixed I email or Web guy
