dvd copy protection?

hello bhw,

I will be making some video for a client and dont want the client burning copies of it for sale and for other usage. I would like to have the client to continue to pay me for copies if the client pleases.

So to the point, does anyone know of a good copy protection program that restricts most dvd copiers from duplicating a dvd?

What are you trying to protect? Documents? Videos? Pictures? Programs?

You could add a watermark to the video?

i am trying to protect videos. A watermark sounds good but to me it stains the video.

You could place the watermark at the lower side of the video to avoid making it look like stained. You could also make it smaller.

Watermarking would work as determined copiers could use freeware like IMGBurn to just copy the ISO and be done with it. While not ideal, it at least is a deterrent to would-be copiers.

I dont think that there is currently any protection for DVD disks that cant be removed. I have 1000s of Movies home mostly copied from original DVD movies.

Watermarking can be placed at the bottom, but if you want to copy the video, then you`ll just crop the bottom couple inches of it.

Perhaps if you make a member area on your website and protect the videos with some sort of sophisticated anti-copy script. I dont know of any. Its just an idea.

A quick Google Search returned some interesting results. Search for "protect videos from download" and you`ll see what I was talking about.

Sentry login encrypts any webpage you want and is relatively cheap. Unless you want to do a PGP encryption for your media which is Jason Bourne overkill imho.

Interesting. Its good to know options out there because it helps make more money if a client wants copies.

Some dvds have strong encryption make it hard to copy without the right software tools. I really wanted to know how they do that.

As books have copyrights in the same way dvd has copyrights. You can protect your dvd by taking legal action. On the other hand you can add watermark for protecting it.
