Duplicating my own website. Consequences? Any tips?

The deal is that I have spent lot of money in my site's development with custom coding, features, etc...

I'm going to start a new site in a similar niche and I would like to save time and money by not having to get all the coding work done again. So I am thinking, can simply duplicate my site's structure and just have the content and the look of the site changed? Or could that cause some kind of penalty?

How should I go about doing this?

Just my opinion - Should not be a problem at all - Google is only interested in duplicate content and if you are changing the content then should not be an issue. I have sites that are EXACTLY THE SAME but they are have different ccTLD's, so content is the same but serving different markets, but Google allows this.
 
There is no problem at all with that. Google cares about content. If the structure is the same there is no problem. Go ahead.
 
Google doesn't like duplicate website/page. Make it unique so it can rank easily
 
I do that a lot of time again and again and never got any problems, just be sure to change the content on each website to get a 100% unique content
 
will not be an issue as long as the content is different I have lots of sites that I do this with and never had a problem

Shouldn't be a problem at all. There are lost of website providers that provide similar website framework and just a different customized homepages and still ranks all their client normally. Yes, content shouldn't be the same though, how website is designed does not matter unless its not very user friendly.
 
i am using the same template and structure for 2 of my sites. both are ranking very well. no duplicate content, even though one is for business and one is for the product. both are also interlinked.

so make sure you have no duplicate content.
 
I did this pre-Panda.

Worked like a charm.

I suppose you can still do it now if you
- keep the same topics but
- use original content
- target related but not identical keywords
 
If you are changing content then all should be good.

Make sure to also change images, image paths, video embeds, image alt tags and most importantly... use different sources for backlinks especially if you are doing PBN.
 
Certainly, you can duplicate your own site’s code. You should definitely change the look of the site and, obviously, post the content that corresponds to the new site’s niche. But I’d say you’re in the clear as far as the code is concerned — I’ve seen plenty of people do what you’re suggesting and get away with it.
