Duplicate/spinned content penalty?

Situation: you create a brand new blog. And to make it look "filled" from the start you publish someone else's content (mentioning the source) or spinned articles. Then you write original high quality content and replace those copied/spinned articles.

Question: Is it ok to do so if you want to rank your original articles in the future? Or will your blog stay penalized even after you replace those copied/spinned articles with the original content?

There are no issues doing this. If you duplicate I suggest you use canonical urls, to avoid penalty. When you replace the content, ask for reindex and before that don't forget to remove the canonical.

Here's the good news: duplicate content isn't a penalty.

While Google will suppress duplicate content to the land of lesser pages or hidden for efficiency, Google really doesn't ding you the same way it does for truly black hat tactics.

That said, it certainly doesn't help. Even after you clean up your act, you still have to be the best dog at the show, so you may be down the page if your content just isn't that great.

What do you mean it doesn't help? I mean, if your original content is not great, it will not rank well regardless of whether or not I had duplicate content on my website before. Base on what you wrote. Should also be true - if your content IS great, then you will rank well regardless of whether or not you had duplicate content before. Is it correct?

P.S. When I talk about ranking I am not talking about other factors that impact the ranking like SEO, competition, etc.

Why do you want to use duplicate content? Why not use original content right form the start.

If you need to have articles posted as soon as possible, why not use credible content spinners to make sure that it does not look duplicated? Else, better have all original content published.

WordAi is a decent one. But you'll have to paraphrase the content to see if makes sense & hopefully, create unique content out of it by re-writing.

Short advise: Dont do it

Long advise: Dont do it unless you arent planning a long term project on that domain.. you are not the first one to think like that and there is a reason why people are not doing it..

Can you explain exactly why? Does it put a black stain on your domain in the eyes of Google forever?

I would not see an issue with this use canonicals but after you update with fresh new "original" ask for re-indexation, best of luck.

i got pages up on the 1st page with the site having 80% duplicated content..... i know its not good, but i think unless you are dealing with super heavy keywords, its not an issue, so what you are doing should be just fine...

I have been penalized by the past for adding phone numbers in the titlte of my pages. Once I updated the titles of my articles, the penalty from Google was lifted. Unfortunately, it was a sitewide penalty.
