I have an e-commerce website. It is showing a lot of duplicate pages for one of its product in the search results. What should I do: either use 301 redirect or use Robots.txt file and why. Please answer with reason so that I can better understand what to do.

Thanks in advance. :)

Don't bother doing anything. There is no duplicate penalty. Google filters the results and shows the most relevant version for that query. It does a good job of it too. Don't stress over it. Actually read Google's guide lines on it.

If you have a lot of "duplicate" pages on your website, try removing certain features such as tags and categories. On some websites, especially Wordpress websites, these are a common cause of duplicate pages.

Get a plugin like or (All in One Seo Pack) then check the appropriate noindex settings

hey r you use permalinks on your site its can help for duplicate page remove

Thank you all for replies
You're welcome, but if you find the replies for everyone useful, there's a little button at the bottom-left corner of each post that says "Thanks". Members and forum moderators actually prefer that you hit that button when you find a post useful to avoid people inflating their post count with messages such as "thanks everyone".

I usually use yoast seo plugin. for de-indexing categories, tags author archives and date archives. Regardless of how good google is at deciding what is good, you should block duplication. Penalties come too easy and too often. No sense pushing your luck.

Don't hue and cry about this, out of date Google will filters the duplicate pages or else remove some tags that may rescue to don't get duplicate pages.

I had same problem and this thread has helped me. Kudos guys

you delete duplicate pages of your website.
It's not always that simple. Some of those pages with "duplicate content" may be, for example, articles that quote other articles.
