Duplicate Content

Hi,

I have one question. One mate have website where he upload articles which came out on 10 other sites. So it means that on this website is non unique content.

Now he wants move up this website on better positions in search engines. He will from this moment public only unique content.

Main question is: To which extent will old non unique content to harm this website? Will the previous non unique content worsen the default site position in the eyes of the search engines?

I know just asking. Because I bought last year (October) blog which have 340 articles and 59 are non unique (duplicate). And from october last year to today traffic increases. This is the reason why Im asking.

Traffic could increase for time being only but at any time will get the bad effect. so don't use it.Try to make unique content and for traffic do some social sharing, article submission and etc.

if that was working why would all be doing hell of a work writing zillion words articles.

this is a no no atleast change it up a little and run it through a checker to make sure its coming back clean
