I have a friend thats working with a webshop ie, (Prestashop) syncing all its stock with ebay and eventually all its products, description, title, price, it totally looks like duplicate content.

What would be the best suggestion for this ?

Should i ask him to rewrite new content for ebay for more than 5k articles / 300 words each ?
Maybe change the content to an image with text in it ?
Are there any other alternatives i havent thought of ?
Does google penalize if the same content is in different marketplaces (amazon, rakuten, ebay... )?

The short answer is yes.

As long as search engine can rank the stated content, it will result in penalization. An alternative is to rewrite or spin the articles. My suggestion is not to recycle content but write new ones albeit having the same objective.

Peace,
VXS

Yes, Google Penalizes the similar content :)
Try to use copyscape and check the uniqueness for the contents respectively.
You edit a bit and check from copyscape :D

isnt a image safer ?

like... lets say just make screen shot of the product description and use it as a image on its behalf, i have been seeing this technique working on ebay not sure how will it work out with other marketplaces.

Eventually in the long run probably the best way to go, is to rewrite each and every content again.

If you want the site to rank you must rewrite the content from scratch. There's no two ways about it.

The biggest temptation faced by a person in your situation is simply rewriting the materials and calling it a day.

Well, I'm sorry to be the one to break this to you, but duplicate content is the least of your worries.

Simple rewriting content that is found elsewhere is not going to cut it.

Not by a long shot, thinking of original content is the first step, but rewriting is not the way to go.

The better approach would be to come up with original content that is geared towards your brand.

This is why a lot of eCommerce websites fail.

They simply look to rewrite each other's stuff or simply copy and paste each other's materials and there's really no point of distinction.

Your best approach would be to come up with unique pages that really push your eCommerce brand forward.

Will this cost money?

Absolutely, but it doesn't have to cause you an arm and a leg.

Thanks to outsourcing, you can get a lot of your pages rewritten professionally for cents on the dollar.
