Duplicate content

Hi guys. I was thinking in posting in a couple of forums a partial article of my site and then leave the link for users to finish reading it. My question is: Will this duplicate content hurt my SEO in my main site?

A second question: Is there a way to know if a blog directory is liked by Google? I like to submit my site to a few of them, but I am worried this links can hurt my rankings.

I think, this is some kind of promoting your content, if you do such things here, you are going to get ban by admin. Never try to promote your own business here.

I dont mean this forum, I want to promote in forums related to my topic (health).

No, it'll not. If you're going to link back to your article page as a source. It is called "content syndication", search in Google for more info.

Yes there are few such as dmoz, yahoo directory, highrankdirectory. Make sure to submit your site on high pr and renowned directories.

Google does not like duplicate content. Duplicate content is always a concern for webmasters. Whether it's a website stealing content from another site. or perhaps a website that hasn't taken an active role in ensuring they get great unique quality content on their site, being duplicated out of the Google index is a problem.

You may want to limit what you post on different forums to something that you are willing to giveaway, should not be a problem as its content marketing and your partial and full content would have differences.

it is like a press release distribution.
If you write the content following the press release guideline it will not be considered as duplicate content. It is promotional post about releasing new website

you can never post same web page content at any other place. You may get banned by forum admin also.

It does not mean a duplicate content.. As Jasons said, it's called content syndication.. OP is telling that he gonna do post partial content and gonna give link to the source content like "click this link to read more".. There are many directories and I prefer dmoz...

Duplicate content is a myth and a non-issue. If you actually read what G has to say on the matter instead of the noise that comes externally from Chinese whispers. If you have 2 or more articles that are considered duplicate that are about to rank on the same query, Google hides all but one of them for that query only. Lets say article 1 is shown, as google decides it better serves the query "blue widgets". Now if article 2 is all but identical to article 1, except it's optimised for red widgets, then article 2 will still be selected for "red widgets". Google doesn't feel it has to penalise duplicate content as it can control it easily in this manner. There was an attempt to penalise this some years ago but the decision was taken that it hurt search quality as such a large percentage of the web is duplicate and decent pages were getting zapped, they decided to deal with it by only serving one version and that works. I can tell you now, I have 58,000 pages that may be considered duplicate, many of them ranking 1st, I've done this for years.

Normally, if a site is ranking well on the first page of google, it means its a good source of backlink for you. Also, content syndication as suggested above is a good way to promote your website but make sure you only share part of your quality content on forums.
