Creating a niche blog, don't know much about the subject, but I have a good FB group with around 3k fans (just happened, no effort there, probably because of the good name) and I want to take advantage of that.

The idea is to have dozen of top notch reviews/guides/ etc. that will be featured on the home page and around 100 other articles, which I want to translate from Russian/German/Persian/Latin ... :) you get the idea.

I know this is not ethical, but I go with small blogs that don't have English public, no harm done I guess ...

My question is, can this ban me from Google and will it affect the health of the webpage, as a reminder - all of the "taken" posts are run on copyscape as unique.

    Thanks
    Alek

If you are planning to get traffic from FB....then that's not a problem.
However, duplicate content is a problem for SEO.

    Hope that helped ;)

Never thought about that before. You could always do a translate, then have it rewritten by a VA.

^^ Good idea. It will definitely not going to cost you much for rewriting the translated content. Do that and keep your site safe.

At the moment, I am not certain Google can detect translated content as duplicate content. That's not to mean that the current Panda 4.2 update rolling out or a future update may not have the feature to recognize translated content as duplicate content.

Therefore, the question is if you want to dread every new update or you want to keep your mind at ease by using unique content. Of course, that depends on your motive behind building the site, short-term versus long-term.

My educated guess is that the price of original content for over 100 articles is steep for you (that is understandable) . If that is the case, you can translate the articles and brush it up yourself so that each article is unique.

I handle rewriting and may be able to offer a sizeable discount to you if you decide to go with using rewritten translated/english content.

It must be said though, that original articles constitute the best option (quality differs, but if uniqueness is of prime importance, it is your best bet). Restructured and repurposed rewrites are a close second. And well, translated content (if that is a viable option).

In the end, it's down to what you want and what your plan is for your site.

All the best in your project.

Rewriting does not cost too much. I would opt to go this route as it is safer.

The question of whether or not Google can detect translated content as duplicate has been asked a lot of times by my clients, too. My answer: Google doesn't. There's an existing thread of conversation about the same here. But, of course, we don't know when will Google release an algorithm that can detect and flag such. To be on a safe side, my recommendation is to rewrite the translated content. Rewrite it on your own or hire a writer to rewrite it for you.

    I hope that helps.

You should consider having them rewritten altogether not only for the G compliance, but also for the sake of readability.

Obviously Google doesn't like duplicate content but that doesn't mean you shouldn't try to change it around a bit. Even a little change can make a huge difference.

I'm a believer of "content is king".

You cannot use duplicate contents but you can use spun articles which are manually edited. Even i have a thought of using translated content and i tried once. Just i have translated the article and checked plagiarism. It was 100% unique but yet now i didnt use them for sites.

This is a really old tactic.

In universities this is very common but these days they have specialist teams watching for translation fraud.

If your site becomes very popular and you get manually reviewed, you may get a ban.

Google wont ban you for duplicate content, there is and never has been a duplicate content penalty, google may however rank your site like shit becouse of the factors involved in determaning wich of two identical pages to shows the user.

There is a real eaasy way to get arround the duplicate content issue though, simply add som (good and informative) text at the begining, something like a short introduction, and again in the bottom of the content

Are you planning to implement AdSense on the niche blog? In that case get the translated content rewritten. Adsense makes Google take extra interest into your site, especially if you are earning well. Got one of my sites banned from Adsense, and the whole account deleted because Google found my ad placement faulty. Whereas competitors with exactly same ad placement are still in business. So if you wanna earn from AdSense, keep your caution.

Goodluck with your project, and do tell us if you went ahead with translated content only how did it work.
