I have decided to move from blackhat to whitehat (just a little bit) and I am starting to work on articles and link building and all that. My question is this: When I am writing articles or creating web 2.0 profile links and things like that the anchor text i use...do i want that to be my exact keywords I want to rank for? Like I know with articles you want to spin the articles themselves so google doesnt nail you but the actual anchor text that I use on all my links...do I need to spin that into random stuff for all my different backlinks or do i still want to keep using my main keyword or two that I am trying to rank for?

I know this is an easy question...but its the silly little things I am struggling to grasp..lol

I would keep them the same, therefore you have a higher chance of ranking for that keyword.

The research I've done points to both ways being correct. (isnt' it that way with all IM? lol)

You want to use Keyword anchor text so that you rank for that keyword, but you don't want 100% of your links with the same anchor text. So, mix it up with other keywords you want to target, etc.

Here's what I am currently using.

50% exact anchor - "buy viagra"
35% variant anchor - "purchase viagra"
    15% naturalised - "click here"

    It works well

    I would agree with Micallef

    Personally I do

    60% - Main keyword

    20% - Secondary keyword variation

5% x4 - various other related terms which may or may not include a simple click here

All your links having 100% optimized keyword anchors looks like spam efforts, and will only encourage google to look deeper.

All of the above have a point but when you use high quality content that offers value to the readers you will get natural links and a lot of them and they almost never use the exact anchor text that you want. Quality content heavily amplifies your efforts not to mention help sell even before they click through to your site also giving you far more traffic. I use 100% exact anchor in my articles and never had a problem. Have i been sandboxed? Sure! Then i send double the articles until i am out.

do not use the same keyword phrase for all the links. There is a penalty for that.So better use long tails as well as the target phrase as your link text.Above all.do not forget to build links to inner pages if you do not want to get into sandbox.Too many links at a time straight to the home page leads to sandbox. At least, that is what i have seen.

should we add like a rel="d0follow" in each anchor link or is it automatic in a dof0llo0w enabled site? What i'm doing right now is promoting a keyword per week. So for week 1 i only promote this keyword, the second week, a long tail of the keyword. Third week, another keyword, 4th week, the long tail of the another keyword.

rel="d0follow" does not exist. If a webmaster auto nofollows your link, there is no way around it by altering the a href code.

I agree with 60% wholeheartedly but I tend to vary my secondary varation between 20 and 30%. You can of course depending on your site have 2 secondary keyword variations and use these 20% each and the remaining 10% for others.
That said I often read anything Micallef posts relating to backlinks has he has demonstrated on this forum through posting experiments he has done, his well researched findings.

No offense to any of you, but have any of you guys (really) tested any of these percentages at all? If so that was the point of failure? 62%? what was the quality of the articles? how much did you pay for the articles? How were they submitted? All at once or dripped? Keep in mind that there are many more factors to consider. Another thing, sending links to inner pages will not at all keep you out of the sandbox. Playing safe is cool but in many niches you have to push it to the limit or you will just spin wheels.
