Dumb Domain question..

Hey all.

Need some quick advice, I have a (in my mind) long term/lasting business idea.

In your opinion what would be *better?


exactkeyworddomain dot com or businessname/keyword or dot com.

I know this is a basic question, but we know that overall site backlinks do count.
I intend this as a long lasting site.
It would seem that after a while achieving rankings for new keywords would get easier, due to the previously earned backlinks from previously targeted keywords, make since?

Your thoughts?

For short term do you believe the exact keyword domains would take MUCH less time to rank for?

I believe that in the short term, the exact keyword domain would take much less time to rank for. I registered 10 exact keyword domains about three weeks ago, and setup a blog on each of them. They all have very little competition, but ALL are ranking on the first two pages of Google and I have done NO linkbuilding, which is unheard of to me.

I'd go for the exact keyword domain if you're just about the cash. If you're more serious and want to consider an offline business image, then the business name would probably be preferred.

This would not be for an offline business just a side thing that hopefully can take off after tons of domains.

It all depends on your keyword and the niche business you are trying to get into. For an online biz, if your keyword is popular, that would be the best way to go. If it's a service biz, the second option may work better long term. Hope this helps

I think the exact match option would certainly make things easier if you're in a moderately to highly competitive niche. For less competitive niches, I'd say either alternative is advisable.
