In your opinion, what kinds of products sell the best in terms of having a long term online store? Electronics, housewares, furniture? Or more niche specific things? Or both? All input is appreciated. Thanks.

Check ebay pulse and see what is hot. Electronics, cell phones, and anything having to do with video games are always good movers. You can also do a google search for "Google adwords keyword tool." Then, you can put in a keyword or type of product and search. It will tell you how many monthly searches have been done for that keyword in the world. Go through a bunch of product types and see what has a lot of searches, but try to find something that has low to medium competition. It will be easier to sell a product that isn't saturated with competition.

There is no money in video games, trust me! The problem with this line of product is all the big retailers sell for less than RRP anyway just to gain a market share.

I would look for a niche product where you can add a proper mark up, and make a decent margin on each line and not just a few quid each week like with video games.
