Dropshipping and newsletter

I've watched some videos about dropshipping and newsletters, but I don't get the point. What I saw, content makers were telling dropshipping is dying and won't work anymore and it's better to push newsletters on websites, but I don't get the point of it. Okay, I got newsletters are about e-mail marketing for after, but what's the reason they are telling stuff like that?
