Hey guys,

My site has been in siting comfortably in position 4 since November 2010 for a pretty hard keyword... and now suddenly it's on the second page..:(

There are even a lot of other new sites ranking above me..

I have around 16K backlinks too, which is more that all my competitors.

What should I be doing?

I just bought a few high quality backlink services including 50 .edu links, waiting to see what happens.

1. Buy a bottle of Jack Daniels
2. Feel sorry for yourself whilst consuming the contents of 1.
3. When you sober up, get back to work
4. Kick all the bastards down to page 2, taking all top 10 rankings just to show 'em
5. Repeat steps 4. and 5. on other sites you own.

The exact same thing happened to me at the start of the year where I had the front page for a load of keywords. Every single one of them disappeared along with my earnings.

since then I continued to write and publish articles for more links and they have come back. Some are the same and some are stronger.

It was a shitty moment though for me because it left me with no cash :(

Lots of other new sites ranking well for a pretty hard keyword! Looks strange to me...

I mean, there are 2 or 3 sites in the bottom 7 of the first page that are less than 6 months old..

As you say you have 16k backlinks my guess is the dirtbox links have lost value, the more links you get the more you need to keep up with it.

Write up 50 articles and get them indexed.

It could just be temporary, I had the same thing happen to me. I was ranked #2 for a pretty competitive kw for about 2-3 months and then one day I was on the 2nd page. It is unbelievably frustrating but that's what happens in the IM game. A week went by and I shot back up, not to #2 but to #1!

Wait a week, if nothing, hit up some .EDU/.GOVs

Did you do something to your site that could have backfired? like an profiles or a comments blast gone wrong?

Take a good look at the top 10 results and see what has changed for your competitors.....more backlinks? backlinks from high PR sites? etc, etc. and try to outnumber them.
