Dropped Domain Checking

This may sound really easy to some, but I've never really looked into it.
How can I see if a domain has been 'Dropped' before?

I hear it's really bad to buy domains that have been dropped for any purpose, money site or PBN.

Doesn't make any difference really. You can see results from auction domains a bit faster, but that's about the only difference there is between that. And IMO, that difference is visible only due to the fact, that auction domains are X times stronger than your average scraped expired domain.

If you need to check it, either check Hosterstats or Whois Domaintools.

You can use this great service http://whoisrequest.com/history/ (it shows somethink like this http://take.ms/jfk5r )

You can also use the wayback machine, and see whether it has past history through the wayback search for that domain name. It will show you a calendar for previous years, and if it has past history, it will show you on the calender, along with the cache of the page, which can give you an overview on what that website was all about.
Otherwise, some who is provides a summary on how many times that domain was dropped or the previous owner count, etc, which can also give you a general overview instead.
