Drop Client or no?

The 80/20 rule is something I always follow.

"80% of your PITA is caused by 20% of your customers."

Once I identify a 20% customer, I slowly withdraw offers of more work (I'm very busy, sorry bro).

Once you get an order book full of 80% clients your world becomes much easier!

@OP Sic I would look at it as, is the $25/month worth the headache? Probably not.
I believe you have learned some significant skills from this experience so now turn it up a notch and find the right clients willing to pay.The road is positive!

He doesn't value you cause...
You're undervalueing yourself.

He's treating you like a monkey cause...
You're charging peanuts.

Message who, SMM client? to get him as a client, is that what you mean?
yeah..sorry

Eh I don't know what I was thinking. I have higher paying clients, I just thought they would be easy since you know? barely any money.

I got a client who I'm doing social media marketing for.

They decide to block people who have beards or look slightly emo (not sure why his engagement was going up ,so it was targeted fine) and keeps bitching about how "you could send other followers"(fucking prick) .

Then he bitches that I don't send enough followers. Mind you he's only paying 25$ a month for a trial and suppose pay around 500$ next month(doupt at this point).

Sucks though he's really talented at music and I know he could be popular with enough time .

Should I try to explain another time that "I can't control " if they have a beard or look slightly emo again or just drop him when his time is up? I really don't get his fucking problem. I can't manually look at people for that price and I explained it to him that all I can do is target by age, gender, all that. I explained that he only paid me for a trial and If he wants that kind of work , he will need to pay for manual work.
Musicians are as dramatic as they come. Avoid them, or drop them

They are picky with their fans, and beggers can't be choosers.

Although you forgot to mention how much you actually helped this musician? How much have they gained?

If they only gained 30 followers off $25 sample, even though it's better than sponsored ads - it's not acceptable by amateur musicians/talent. They want fame from $250. Maybe you promised too much?
and maybe all new followers look odd for their niche in music (aka: why would a Christian rapper have a bunch of emo followers, looks weird from a label stand point, unless he's an emo artist, the fanbase kinda needs to be relevant. A Realestate agent wouldn't be happy if they gained a bunch of kids, nobody wants to wait 20 years for a potential sale)

he gets 3-5 followers a day like I promised(A little over it says he gained 150 so far and he still has a week and he is blocking a lot)

Also hes not exactly emo but its the type of metal a lot of emos listen to ,so it's kinda hard to avoid it without manually looking through the lists.

Would you really go and watch every account to see if the user has beard or looks like an emo to follow?
You shouldn't be asking. The answer is right there.

true ....You cant even hire someone in a 3rd world country for that price. If you did 25$ you would be lucky to get 50 followers with those requirements. He should be glad that I can even get results that cheap. Maby if he was paying me very well, I would(Even than, its nearly impossible to not get a few emos)

he is paying you 25$, imagine with 500 lol, i used to be a freelancer and these type of clients were a nightmare, highly avoid

I Can't wait Until My clothing store takes off or I get a good contract for influencer marketing. Client's can be a nightmare. I have a client who still has been paying me for a year and barely has anything to say about my work. Wish everyone was like that.

Have you explained to him how the algorithm works ?
The more people he blocks, the less potential fans he has to engage with his posts, which results in less reach over all

Example:

25 emos
15 normals (or however you wanna label this equation)

Can easily turn into 35 normals and 30 emos
Just by hitting explore

The key is to build the first engagement foundation, so it's easier to expand off

Also, the more followers you help him gain (regardless of emo/normal) , builds your account score so you hit "suggestions / etc"

Before starting business you should always get the point across for them to let you do you, and tell them never to interfere (because if their interference was so good, they wouldn't need you in the first place), then get them to just trust you & take what you offer for the whole month/trial without interfering, then make a judgement from there on your business & block people if wanted

Because him blocking people every day, is lowering is daily growth ratio, which is impacting his potential.

Gain more < reach more
Block more < lose more < reach less

I can try again but I highly doubt at this point. I tried explaining that he should not focus on sales until he hits around 20-50k but hes too worried about his future band gear.

I also tried explaining that it does not matter if they have a beard or are emo. They like his music enough to go to it.

You should do a better job explaining that you can't control who will follow your clients. That said, this client is a PITA and it's not worth the $25 to even communicate with someone who makes these types of comments.

One of my partners came up with a good way to determine if clients are qualified. I'm ad-libbing some of these are I can't remember every single question:
1. Are they the only person in their company? - If so, they are probably going to blow up your phone since they need someone to bounce ideas with.
2. Is this their first time owning a business? - First time business owners have little experience and might require a lot of hand holding.
3. Do they know how much they are able to spend to acquire a customer? - If they don't know the answer to this question, they likely haven't put much thought into their business and might be a PITA.
4. Do they have realistic expectations? - Someone who is experienced in business will have some realistic expectations for results. Meaning, they won't expect 20k real followers for $5 or $10 CPA on a $5k service.
5. Do they have a budget in mind? - People who don't have a budget set aside may not be serious about their business.

You should raise your prices though. Even $100 per month is very low. Not saying you need to charge more than anyone else, but real clients with real budgets would not buy a service for $25 or even $100 because they would know it's unlikely to be effective (even if it is effective).

I've found that photographers (independent), musicians, and artists are the worst clients. They just aren't real businesses. They just don't have realistic expectations IMO.

If you don't mind me asking, what country are you in?

I really should ,Oh well lesson learned. Now i Know..

True.....maybe I should do 100$ as a test and Eh I am starting to believe they are. I have a few good musician's and artists though.

Also I am from the USA

25 emos
15 normals (or however you wanna label this equation)

25 emos
15 normies
20 goths
40 ravers
30 flappers
10 rockabillies
15 juggalos
45 seapunks
30 chongas

Could become:
90 gyarus
300 beatniks
200 bikers
400 hippies
1000 rivetheads
5 normies

I've yet to receive an emo $10 bill with make-up on it, or a beard.

If he's focused on sales, explain how your customers look doesn't impact their buying / monetizable ability - if anything, emo people are die hard fans who actually buy merch all day to hang up on their wall/shelves/closets (maybe stereotypical, maybe true)

Also explain the influencer equation

Attention < engagement < followers < high account trust score < explore page < tons of views < monetizable on youtube, etc < profits come in < fans come in < sales occur

Lol its not a stereotype(well it is) but its true.

I will try once again to explain it I guess. maybe he will be less of a PITA(Doubt though)

If this bridge has burned, just live, learn & improve your pitch for the next client so they expect less, and then comes out of the trial deal getting more than expected

Don't tag yourself cheap, Not worth it.

I was going to say just try to keep him until it's time for him to purchase the $500 next month, which I highly doubt he will do. However, even if he does, you'll still have to deal with him, he's not gonna change. Don't take any abuse though, keep the tone of the conversation formal. These types of clients should be avoided since the beginning, but at least you build some experience and will know how to deal with a similar case in the future.
Good luck!
