    Hi guys,

I have a news article about someone that comes up when you search their name. I was wondering the best technique to drive it down. That person has made numerous pages and accounts (facebook, instagram, youtube, github) to try and push it down but it's ranked at 3 still.

What I was thinking of doing is creating a script that uses proxies to google their name and visits search results that aren't that specific news article. Basically all the results on the first two pages *except* the content they don't want shown.

Is there anything else that can be done or added to make it more effective?

Are you in the EU? If so this person may have the article removed by evoking "the right to be forgotten".

What you're talking about is a good idea in theory, but doesn't work in reality. I've tested every "search and click" company as well as my own private, public, and semi-private proxies. The services and searches all work, but the results are lacking.

Your best option is to create great content and publish on high authority/ranking sites. Then push it up with SEO.

Link building, social signals, branded searches, there are a lot of ways, but those are three of the major ones.

It used to be simple with a combination of quality links to other sites, and then buying some bad links.

Not so easy now though since Google simple removed the effect instead of penalizing automatically for obviously spammy/blackhat links .

I'd suggest what BHopkins suggested, honest hard work on building links to all other sites in top 10 than that, and possibly even top 20. It should not be that competitive a word, unless his name is super common, but if the news site with the bad mention is a large site with millions of backlinks I think it could be an uphill (read: costly) battle.
