Drip Feed Backlinks

Someone asked me if I drip feed my backlinks. I not could find a straight answer and decided to turn to google. Yet still lost i finally came to this forum where all my doubts are ALWAYS answered.
I would like someone to explain what he meant if i drip feed my backlinks.

It means do you add all of your backlinks at one time or do you schedule them to created gradually over time. A few per day vs. blasting hundreds at the same time. Hope that helps
