I'm on the fence on this one. Half of me says yes, and half of me says no. It will be interesting to hear what everyone else says.

I didn't think he was asking if it was good to have a blog. I thought he was asking if it was good to have a blog on your site. I have a stand alone blog and am on the fence as to which one is better-on your site or alone, hosted elsewhere.

I'm of the opinion that you can't really go wrong with a blog. You can target many keywords that are out of the range of possibilities for a product page (i.e: product A vs. Product B comparison). Also, it is easier to rank a blog article because of relevance etc. You can just get the readers and provide something useful enough that they explore the site or even have links on the side if they're interested.

Also, if you provide content that is good enough you can backlink the crap out of a blog article and usually not get penalized too bad. Yet, it will provide root domain with trust/authority.

    But that's just my analysis.

Most of them thinks just blog commenting will help in bringing traffic but running a blog will drive more traffic than we expect. Also..if you are good at blogging, you can be a guest blogger or invite someone to write comment on your blog. This way, you can get genuine traffic and google will think good about you. Always running a blog is good way of getting traffic.
