Hi I currently just ordered WordPress and I think I need to buy my own hosting so I heard about Downtownhost and Hostgator.

Just need some opinions on both based on my purpose!

Thanks!

I use Hostgator and never had a problem with them. Very reliable and good support. I recommend them (no, I was not paid to say that).

I have about 100 websites hosted, and many are built on a WordPress platform. WordPress is very easy to setup using HostGator's CPanel. Let me know if you need help.

Thanks! I just downloaded Blackhat Wordpress and hopefully it will go well!

I used to use HG, never had a problem and their support is a nice bonus.

That said, it is more expensive than other hosts.

BTW , with hostgator , should I be getting the Reseller hosting or what?

Hostgator used to be one of the best or may be best... I kept my sites with them for several years, never had any problem... But few months back their support became pathetic, lots of downtime... I lost my ranking, traffic and forced to move out... Later on I found that they are not even keeping backup of sites...

It was not that I had very big sites or I was getting huge traffic... Simple wordpress sites with avergae visitors...

Hostgator was best in my eyes for shared hosting with experience... After that I bought dedicated so I don't know any other host which are good in shared hosting category...

HG is the best. I ordered hosting with them for 3 years.. Their support is greaat

Downtown Host gets "lost" in the mix many times, but they are a provider with a solid track record. I definitely consider them a premium provider.

As I mentioned in another thread, Hostgator has it's share of supporters, but more than it's fair share of detractors. With Hostgator, you'll typically be fine if you use basic/"normal" resources, but once you go outside of their expectations you will run into problems. This is the big drawback with companies that offer "unlimited" plans as they are never truly unlimited. Hostgator (as with any other similar provider) has internal limits set that WILL be triggered at some point, you just don't know when. Plus, "unlimited" typically means oversold, which can lead to performance problems. Even though it sounds backwards, if you expect your site to continue growing, I'd go with a non-unlimited provider so you know exactly what to expect. Choose quality over quantity when it comes to a host provider...it's the core of your business.

I know someone who was hosting an IPB forum with hostgator. Their site had low traffic and at one point they had about 35 connections going to the DB. Hostgator put an error up on their site and when the owner contacted hostgator to find out what hte problem was, he was told to upgrade his account.

He only used 2GB of bandwidth in a week and 35 connections isnt "that" much is it? like seriously...

Thanks for the opinons guys! I just ordered the bronze package , i think thats what its called. Its $7.96 a month. Not too bad right?
