Doubt about a keyword and positioning it

I have a gardening site in English and a keyword with a lot of traffic is already on page 2 of google. My website is only 1 year and 1 month old and the truth is that it is growing slowly but I think it is good for something so competitive.
I bought here cheap backlinks for other keywords/articles and I would say that it almost didn't work (I repeat cheap to test).
My question is to position this article in the first page I should buy good links in PBN right? I am very new in SEO and I have this doubt.
I currently monetize with adsense and Amazon affiliates, obviously I don't want to get banned or have my website penalized.
The article is 3000 words long and is authentic, not spin, not translated at all.

yeah, backlinks are usually what jumps you up in the rankings. I would get a few strong backlinks with exact match anchor to that page and have them indexed.

Also, point a few internal links (again with exact anchor text, or at least partial anchor text) from indexed pages of your website to that URL.

Last but not least, check the content and on-page SEO of your competitors... or at least the ones in google's top 5. Maybe your content is too short when compared to theirs, or maybe you are not covering the same topics as them and if you check the sites ranking on the 1st page and they all seem to be covering the same topics then you need to cover those, as well because google thinks those topics are relevant. Additionally, check how many images your competitors are having on their pages and also how many OBLs, and where they point to? Sometimes, strong backlinks are not really needed to boost your rankings, but a few on-page SEO tricks will work as wel. There's a reason why tools like SurferSEO and Frase check the number of images and OBLs on pages. And speaking of OBLs, check what your competitors are linking out to and - if possible - link out to the same websites, as well. Basically, do the basic on-page SEO that's required to rank for medium-high competition keywords like yours.

And if these are already done and you're still not ranking it all comes down to getting more and better backlinks than your competitors. Just be mindful of the anchor texts, because they're a big ranking factor... or rather, a big spam-deciding factor I should say. Still important regardless....

Thank you very much for your response. My content is more extensive and I have more images but I will check what they have as you said that I don't have. Obviously they are websites with much more authority than mine which is only 1 year old.

OBLS what does this term mean if I have never heard of it.
