Sorry but I couldn't find an answer with the search function:

Are dot edu dot something backlinks the same value as dot edu backlinks?

For example:

domain.edu vs domain.edu.br

If we will just base it in the domain alone, without other factors like age, pr, obl, etc. I think ".edu" have more value than ".edu.something"

but if you can get a link to one of them or both, just do it..

.edu is always better, but and edu.something is still a good backlink and you shouldn't skip it

Both are good to improve your SERP. If you want only one link and you have two options, then go with .edu than .edu.br.

Yeah both carries importance, Whenever i get hold on to something, i dont skip.

It's "kind of hard" to get .edu domain and it's cheap and easy to get edu.something domain ex. edu.uk so... For me the thing with .edu and other "authority" domains is that in most cases they have high authority which can give you a lot of link juice.
