I just read this and it made me wanna punch someone hard. As someone who has done freelance jobs for years, this feels all to familiar. Look how this douchebag was able to exploit the guy he supposedly wanted to hire....and then after 17 days trying to freeload he comes out with this : "I know people at Upwork and I'm gonna screw you"...what a complete waste of oxygen this guy is.

Unless this is thoroughly resolved and that other guy kicked out, don't use Upwork.

More reasons to not use them.

I am earning my livings 50% from Upwork I can see no reason why I will not use the platform? is it the only reason for your banning Upwork?

Did you see how a purported employee from Upwork tried contacting him in the comments section of the article?

He was right about how it shouldn't take a post on his site getting attention for Upwork to make things right. I've seen this happen to people who were banned from Adsense numerous times in the past; as soon as they post about it, Google suddenly looks into the situation, realises they (Google) were wrong, and then they unban the account.
Rich, it shouldn’t take a post like this for you (Upwork) to give someone special treatment. I know there are thousands of others like me that rely on your platform (most, far more than myself, for much larger %’s of their income). In some cases this can very literally mean the difference between putting food on the table and not.
They may not be able to spread the message like I, or speak English in such a manner. They may not be able to drum up enough attention, so they go unnoticed. It’s no skin of Upwork’s back, until it turns into a PR mess. Hence why you’re commenting.
Let’s cut the shit, Rich. I’ve got 2 tickets open and have been messaging everyday for the last 11 days. Nothing, nada. Just, ‘We’ve banned you and you can’t know why’. (For those reading this, yes, they do say you cannot know why.So as to not to let on to why they ban you).
I’ve tweeted at you, nothing.
Now, I have roughly 75% of a months worth of Upwork money stuck on there. If I were someone else, or someone without other income streams, what would I do? What could I possibly tell my incumbent clients? Shit, what am I even going to tell my incumbent clients? you’ve just left me without a months worth of wages and a big ‘fuck you, there’s nothing you can do.’
So, I do not want any special treatment. I will not contact you via email. This is an integral problem with Upwork itself and I will highlight it as much as I possibly can, even if that means losing the money and my reputation on there that I’ve been building up over the last year.
And please Rich, I’m a bloody marketer for Christ’s sake. Don’t come at me with that standard company mumbo jumbo ‘it makes us feel terrible’. You’re just being patronising.
On another note, I "literally" almost stopped reading his post because of how many times he "literally" used the word "literally". I suppose you could say it's a pet peeve of mine when the word is used excessively and incorrectly, although I got the impression that his first language wasn't English, so I continued reading the article and his comments regardless.

Wow that is ridiculous! I read in one comment the guy uses freelancer and gets paid 50% upfront..and his account was suspended and he had his clients complain to get his account fixed since they already spent 50% each on the projects. Does that mean they did a milestone and he was able to withdraw that amount and then his account got suspended? That is something to definitely consider doing in the future!

wow those fees alone should be a good enough reason to not use #UpShit

I think most platforms are like that don't care about the workers but the people who bring money to them

I faced a same problem when elance became upwork. I was working for a client hourly. After a week work when I looking for the payment (about 8 hours a day for 5 days $15/hour) Upwork said they need to check the payment issue with the client. I filed a case and they banned my account. Still now, I am facing problem as there is no future.

Also huge amount of charges and fees!!! Let's forget Upwork.

LOL I didn't notice the litterally's....I guess I'm getting older and my OCD is improving ;)

Like the Upwork guy said himself, it should not take a public post in order to sort this sort of thing out. The "client" was a complete douche throughout the dialogs and harmed the freelancer on purpose knowing he did not hack anything. The client gave him the password to access the system, then said he accessed it illegally, that was mean.

Wow, time for someone to create a clone but with good customer support.

*off topic*

If someone is interesting in earning easy money with traffic, you can write me and I share some information
It is easer than you can imagine

XRUMER skills = weak!

Good thing the guy didn't give in and do the work for free. I know many would have.

The majority of my work comes through online job posting sites similar to upwork. As a rule though, I avoid the sites that require any sort of signup, proposal, or fee. It's just not worth the effort, and they honestly are a total waste of time, in my opinion.

I wish someone DDos upwork, fuck them in ass.

Anyone considered Upwork is good for making new contacts and working with them directly later? I use it to hire freelancers for a long time and we're not using their platform to chat & proceed the payments at all.

This thread covered the entire range which goes from necessary-evil to just plain evil. I learned something.
