They track you with Google fonts is my guess. Only a guess, but I don't trust anything Google at all.

Very true - I was always way to paranoid when it comes to google fonts and the opportunity to track more sites with it even if the rare case they don't have analytics or adsense. Many Wordpress templates come with Google fonts...

The question is now:
What alternatives to Google fonts are there for non-wordpress sites?

This is 100 % paranoia, based on 0 facts. All what they can do with it (even if they want to spend time and resources) is to see http GET requests from your website which is absolutely normal since your site is already indexed in google and you are probably trying to rank that site so they see all your articles and shit already.
If you are trying to hide something form them, better be afraid of their googlebot crawlers, or javascript codes in adsense and google plus button, also don't use google Chrome browser.

Complete paranoia. Even if you don't use any Google product, they still can see exactly what you do.

To all those running from Google, I say, keep running. Then come back and let them index your site and get way more information than they would solely from your use of their fonts. If you really want to hide from Google, block googlebot.

The domains that serve the fonts do not have cookies enabled so the only things that google can see(in regards to privacy) are your ip and the referer header(they can see that the font has been requested by a wordpress administrator for example and the domain where the request originated).

To disable the referer header, google: disable referer and you'll find tons of ressources.

Only those who make dark things should afraid of Google...But this is a Black Hat World Website, ain't it?

All interesting perspectives, as I said, my guess. Couple of the things, my answer to tz2011. #1 googlebot crawlers: they can be manipulated if you know them all and have the custom code to feed them what you want, or honeypot. Your point #2: javascript codes in adsense; I don't use adsense, high risk in my eyes. #3 google plus button; I don't use google plus button. #4 google Chrome browser. Answer: I don't use chrome for my business. And I've been kicking it since 2008 and making 6 figures easily. Just my 2 cents and all of my love to you, like Led Zeppelin.

Another interesting note: you remember when google hijacked yahoo and bing? I saw it that day, and was like wtf, anybody remember that? You think google can only see your ip and http requests? You gotta be kidding me. You don't think they sniff packets and a thousand other things? They're part of the government if haven't noticed. They see your MAC address, router, computer info, your mobile/#, everything. So yes, maybe I'm paranoid. But it keeps me on my toes, and I'm thankful for that. And appreciate you guys, it's extremely interesting to hear other viewpoints and knowledge base. I've neglected this site for whatever reason, mistake on my part.

Correction: I've had a few rye whiskeys. What I meant by google hijacking, was the browsers. And Merry Christmas!

In my opinion there are no any risk as soon as you have this fonts in admin area of WP or other software.

If you are right we all have big problem becouse this forum uses ajax.googleapis and many of seo bloggers (like gotcheseo) use a googlefonts.

People in general don't understand what a HTTPRequest(get or post) can contain. And a company like google always appreciate those information. Refer the documentation for HttpRequest then you know what I am talking about.

Whoever, interested to game the google search engine. Should stay away from google properties whenever it is possible. It is money and business. Paranoia or not we have to take care of our self.
