Hi people,

I got told to "get a proper job" today. It's not the first time I have been given sh*t about how I make a living (IM) either. Even "friends" have criticized how I make money and I often get strange looks from people when I tell them what I do.

I'm not rich yet, I'm basically at the stage where I can make a living from this, pay my bills, have a beer now and then, buy new clothes, go on the odd vacation here and there. I'm basically making an average wage from IM and I intend to go further and make a sh*t ton of money (I'm not just in this for the money btw, I'm in this for the freedom it brings me, not having to get up at 5 am every day and commute, not taking crap from a boss, etc etc).

It's taken about a year a lot of hard work to get to this stage and I know that in another year from now, I will be in a very comfortable situation.

I am happy.

But...

What is it with some people? They see you doing OK, but because you don't follow the herd, they look down at you. I have lost count at how many times people have said negative sh*t to me about what I do (not everyone; some people have been very supportive and positive, but they are in the minority).

Sorry, I am ranting on a bit now. My point is that you should NEVER give up or be put off by negative people. This time last year I had just been fired from my job and I didn't even know where my next meal was coming from. Today I am comfortable, my own boss, not afraid to open my bills and most importantly to me, I lam doing something that I enjoy. Just keep learning, moving forward and keep positive. You WILL get there.

You will always get people trying to put you off for one reason or another...DON'T LISTEN TO THEM, YOU CAN DO THIS.

Rant over,

James

Fuck them, let them live their shitty life and you live happy life.

You know, they are like crabs, when some try to get out of the cage, they try to get you back, but id you get put you will get freedom.

Just dont care about them, if they talk crap about you, you are on right track.

You could also just be an asshole to annoy them.

Ask them how getting up at 5 am, commuting, taking shit from retard bosses and having no potential to earn more money is working out for them. Then ask them if they would rather get up at 10am, work in your PJ's while watching TV with no dick head telling you what to do and earn the same money...

They are jelly bro, or they don't understand.

It's one or the other, it has to be.

Haters gon hate bro, you just handle your biz. You will have the last laugh!

Well put :) Plus rep bro :)

They are jealous and too scared to go out on their own. Tall poppy syndrome. F them. I left my well paid secure job ages ago and have never looked back. My only regret is that I did not do it sooner. Never worked a full day in my life since and have travelled and lived in many beautiful parts of the world....
Don't listen to them.....

Tim Ferriss had a great answer to it. Apologize, don't explain.

I'm not the type to flaunt my money and as a result, some of my own family members don't even know I make really solid bank. As a result, I get them telling me to "get a real job" and stuff like that. Usual uninformed sheeple dribble... When in reality, I'd have to take a massive pay cut to "get a real job" and I'd lose out on so much more.

I just tell them I'm sorry they think that something else would be more right for me and that I don't agree.

Their statement is a reflection of their own limited understanding, not mine. But you're also not going to convince dumb people to suddenly understand. I find this way at least keeps the emotional aspect out of it and you don't hurt people's feelings that you don't need to.

On the other hand I sometimes need to listen to negative people to measure how far positively I am. It's a lonely place at the top since there are only a few but it's also better looking down than looking up.

Ain't that the truth! I listen to negative people for laughs, and I always end up saying...You mean to tell me you actually get up and go work for someone from 9oclock to 5oclock and for every hour they give you $10.00 damn your life sucks better them then me.

...and 9 till 5 is if you are lucky! My last job was 6.30 am until 5.30 pm and sometimes longer. It sucked sweaty balls.

I often think about my days when I was part of the rat race.

I left high school with the 5th best grades out my year. My future was bright and I had many doors open but no idea what I wanted to do.

I went to college (16-18 age learning) and lasted 1 year. I fucking hated it, it was the aspect of high school I hated but it was magnified (no actual learning, just learn to pass tests)... but I did do Philosophy and that changed my life. It really teaches you to think about shit while taking a step back from it all and I feel I am a lot more creative because of it. I also had an amazing teacher which also helped I feel...

but anyway, I see the rat race as bollocks. Many of my friends are accountants or bankers... careers where they have a lot of paths to take to success and for what I know they will probably get there but they are essentially zombies. They hate it.

Why the fuck do people do a job, to carry on living, to carry on doing a job they hate?

They work in a job they hate to pay their bills, they get paid and pay bills so the next month they can carry on working at a job they do not like....

This is fucking madness. Where is the future for them? They want that company BMW and 6 bedroom house and good on them for having the ambition. They can do it and they know that but seriously... you work 40 hours a week for 50 years of your life, why dedicate such a high portion of your life to something you loath.

Do something you want to do, ignore the money.

The money should not be part of it, because if you have an interest in something then chances are so do others. And if you get to the top of your trade, the pinnacle of your area of expertise you will be able to charge a large fee for what you do.

You will not get to the top of your trade without a pure love for what you do and what other way is there of doing what you love?

So in other words fuck others, fuck opinion, fuck hate, fuck negativity.

If you want to spend your life scuba diving, do it. Open a diving school, go find buried treasure... what ever it is, just do it.

because you will be doing something you love and the people around you will be selling shoes in sports stores working so that next month they can afford to work and carry on being miserable and depressed.

Explain this to them and then ask, which one of us is the stupid one?

Keep away from people who try to belittle your ambitions. Small people always do that, but the really great make you feel that you, too, can become great. -Mark Twain

"You will not get to the top of your trade without a pure love for what you do"...so true. That's the magic ingredient isn't it, to love what you do, then it isn't even a job is it. It's getting paid for your hobby.

I have the same thing happen to me all the time, I think that some people just don't under stand, and some people are jealous. Either one, I try not to pay attention to the negative people that are just looking to bring me down. We know what the internet is capable of doing for our lives.

I was told by a few that I wouldn't graduate HS. Now I have a college degree, 2 years of corporate experience and my own online-offline business. Use the negativity to push harder and make them look like idiots at the end. It's your life, control it the way you want it to be, and live happily!
