What a day, seems some dudes did not appreciate my ad campain and hit me all day with denial of service attack, bringing the server down temporally.

To those noobs a DOS is Basically, tons of IP addresses connecting to your server, doing things like not closing connections properly and simply connecting to apache way too many times. This isn't so much of a security issue as much as it is abusive behavior by end users who wants to bring your sites sites offline.

If you are on a dedicated server, make sure u ask you host to install dos deflate for you, so anyone that exceeds xx amount of connections to apache will be blocked by the firewall, also ask your host to ensure you have synflood protection enabled in CSF which will help prevent malicious users from blasting your server with syn packets.

Your host will most probably install these things for you for free, so be safe and get protected., speak to your host.

If you do get attacked, you might want to rebuild easyapache as this will most probably crash under the dos load and make sure the curl support also get compiled and if your images and headers get all screwed up and you get errors like this: Thumbnail generation error: The GD image library is not installed. This could easily be overlooked in the apache log so just rebuild the GD and all should be fine.

Keep safe and Peace to the dudes that served me a dos :listen:

My dedicated server already has everything you mentioned installed and enabled. It is pretty expensive though - 330$/month for this server.

He is just helping people out when their advertising campaign of BH techniques piss off the wrong people and they get DOS'd. Nothing at all to do with hacking.

I am curious what part of my post do you associate with hacking.
I am merely offering info so people can protect themselves from DDOS

I was actually DOS'ed so I know how it feels to sit there going back and forth with customer support to get your site back online. At first they tried to say it was my fault so I told them to check the logs. Finally got my site back up within the next day.

FFS some people are thick on this forum. He gave some good points for people with dedicated servers. If you have a dedicated server then confirm with your host that those tools are installed. If you are looking at getting a dedicated server then ask if those tools can be installed.

You don't need to be limited to a certain host. There will be more than one good host in the world. Just check these basics that Doctor highlighted so you don't fall in the shit. Not everyone knows about these things and some people forget to check.

Bragging? At no point does the OP come across as cocky.

You don't have to run a dedicated box for this to be good advice.

I run a couple of VPS and hadn't heard about DDOS deflate.

I'm having some flood issues, too and appreciate the tip about easyapache.
