just got an advise from a regional seo manager who's working for one of the largest well funded startup. He said to me don't buy any links, instead attracts link organically with marketing buzz like create useful content.

So the marketplace of blackhatworld is useless? They can't lose anything coz their site revenue is 6-7 figure a month, they never buy links.

Buying links is for short term properties (talking about pbn here).

Manual link building is for authority websites that you want to last
 
OP, Is this new to you? :smashfrea I think I have seen a dozen threads on BHW about this same topic.
 
I use content marketing to procure backlinks for a few sites, and as much as I like the method as it allows me to focus more on my content, there are several issues with this strategy.
  1. Depending on your niche and strategy, it can take some time to get backlinks. A problem which leads into #2...
  2. If your site is small, you'll find that SEOs who are building backlinks actively (whether through paid methods or other means) will have an easier time outranking you. A problem which leads into #3...
  3. If your content begins ranking for a keyword without backlinks/with a few "okay" backlinks, your competitors will notice and outrank you when they build their backlinks.
 
Post some "marketing buzz" content and see how many links you get.

That only works if you have a known website, connections, or someway to email people and tell them about your new article.

Dont buy blackhat links for a project you plan on running for years to come but if its a little affiliate site buy links.
 
Lol the guys regurgitating that old inbound marketing bullshit, are the same guys buying links all day every day! Fuck those guys.. they're only bullshiting themselves.

For example what is the difference in a link on huffington post which has been bought vs has been used naturally.. nothing, zero, zilch.. they all look the same.

If it makes these guys feel better at night then happy days, but while they're slaving away hoping to get noticed.. I'll be over here bribing any editors that will accept cold hard cash.
 
If you are making 7 figures a month OF COURSE YOU DON'T BUY LINKS. At that point you bribe links from large news sites and run huge viral content marketing campaigns. But that shit is too expensive for 99.999% of us here.

Buying links is the right tool depending on what you're doing and what your goals are. A guy with a cheap Amazon affiliate isn't going to blow $1,200 bribing a link from some huge News site. And he isn't going to have the time to churn out viral "buzz" content and have it paid to be circulated on Taboola to get organic links.

The real problem is to create quality content, if you dont have good content creators WITH EXPERIENCE (video editors, infographics, article writersl, SEO people) then you cant attract 'organic" links, go and create a PBN then
 
Really. It depends on where are you buying from. Fiverr <- Big no.
 
Yeah why not, those big ticket SEO agencies is able to sell their premium SEO services worth thousands of dollars each month and then buy links from news websites. When link comes from news websites, it is as natural as possible and thrills the clients. So yes, that is a good idea provided you have a heavy bank balance.

Don't buy links blah blah... Try attracting organic links while the "big guys" are banking hard with bought links.

i am a complete nood regarding SEO but for sure link so do have a affect on your rankings. See it this way - If you buy cheap links then definitely its gonna degrade your rankings so in that case your are better not buying links
 
Ofcourse you have to check the links which you are buying whether it's quality or not. You can't say all links are spammy, blah blah etc. The way of buying links (depends upon your niche) is very important to drive organic traffic for your site.
 
buying links is much easier than starting a PR campaign that might not get viral or creating content that might not get ranked just by its content quality
 
But for that you have to prepare or outsource some Oscar winning content OP! Ain't Nobody Got Time Fo' That ;)
 
I know the thread starter's opinion is probably going to draw a lot of flak.

You have to understand that buying and selling links is quite a lucrative industry in SEO.

But the problem is buying links is like rolling the dice with your website.

Depending on the type of pages you are going to be buying links for, you might be setting in motion the eventual penalization of your website.

You really would have to be very careful.

The links may look attractive on its face, but you need to do due diligence.

You might want to do a backlink analysis of the links.

You might want to do some legwork in researching the history of these websites with these links.

In most cases, links are not what they appear to be.

I'm not saying you should not be buying links across the board.

What I am saying is you need to do it wisely.

Otherwise, you only have yourself to blame when your website gets screwed up.
