Don Lapre killed himself before he could go to trial. If you dont know who he is, he started selling infomercials for the worlds greatest vitamin and some other work at home stuff

That's some hard out shit. You've gotta feel for the guy, from making millions to being homeless and living in the back of a gym and trying to kill himself multiple times. He may have been annoying but he did what most people in direct marketing can only dream of.
 
Goes to show that selling hundreds of thousands of people lies will catch up with you. He had some emotional problems for sure that he should have went to a physiologist for. What sane guy do you know that mutilates his genital area?

What he did was no different from pretty much every "make money" product on Clickbank, just on a bigger scale.

Also his legal problems were mostly about the money laundering. They would have had a pretty difficult time proving that he was selling lies... I'm sure that his products did have a kernel of usefulness in them, much like all those shitty CB products.
 
This is kinda sad... I also bought one of his 1-900 phone course a while back... at the time he was everything I wanted to be... money, fame, etc... sad.

When compared to the Clickbank/cpa products the difference between Lapre and the others is that he scaled his business (maybe too much). His products were no worse/better than any making money online promoted at Clickbank or cpa acai weight loss products.

I don't understand why people can't just sell making money products that actually make money. Is it really that hard to do?

If making money was as easy as buying an ebook and reading it, then everyone would be rich, don't you think? Just because someone makes money with one tactic, doesn't mean everyone can replicate it even if they are mentored by a successful person.
 
What a shame. I bought his course when I was 18. I actually used some of his methods to make money. I would go to yard sales, buy stuff, and then resell it in the newspaper. His course is what basically started my obsession with making money and business.

As much as the guy had issues, he was a legend in his own right.

Think of the economics of it. How long until the method becomes completely saturated? It's much more profitable to sell a get rich method that appeals to everyone, than giving away YOUR OWN method that actually works but takes a shit load of time and effort to set up.

I thought Don Lapre's books had value for $20, but the way he pitched them is what got him heat.

Authorities didn't say whether Lapre wrote a suicide note but on his website, donlapre.com, he puts forth a note for the public with something close to the sentiment of a farewell message:
"Never Stop Dreaming.... I tried to create the best product on earth, paid out millions, made very little trying to make it a success, had attorneys review my entire company, paid out millions in refunds, tried to make the commission and products better every single year, and in spite of all that, I have been accused of something I did not do. I did not have the perfect company but never once did I allow one thing to be done that would violate any law. Nevertheless, because the majority of people did not make money, in spite of everyone of them being able to make as many $1000 checks as they wanted, I am left to fight a battle that will for sure destroy what energy I have left inside... I hope the pictures below motivate you to take a chance in life and try to do the impossible... It did not work out for me with my vitamins but I believe that being willing to fail is part of having a chance at success.... Never stop dreaming and for all those who sent me testimonials of what you did because of some of my help, I am grateful I made a small difference in your life... DL"

Sounds to me like he truly believed in himself. He was wrong, obviously, which makes him completely delusional. But that kind of self-belief seems to have an attractive quality that causes people to succeed even when it's complete bullshit. Enough people believe in the person that believes in himself, that nothing else matters. They'll pay as much money as they have in order to acquire the same secret. But, I suspect that "secret" is mental illness. I'm thinking Hitler, Manson, Jim Jones, Waco. etc... They are doomed, and yet as long they believe in themselves, other people will believe in them also, no matter what the circumstances are.

Aimed properly, placed in a legal setting, with legitimate products and a reasonable business plan, I think these people's success is guaranteed. You couldn't stop them no matter what you did to them, as long as they continue to believe in themselves, they will always have people that will believe in them. Money and power are the natural result.

Don shows us for that those who do find success in terms of money (because there are many
different types of success) ... they MUST choose wisely when faced with all the options ... or else
face that familiar, lonely road to excess.
