There are a ton of threads on this topic so you get additional opinions there as well! In terms of ranking makes no difference but for branding no hyphen is better.
If you can't find a .com .net's seem to rank just as good. .Org's too. I think you should try to find the domian.com domain.net or domain.org for a good website and if you have to and can find nothing else .info.
Best of luck I wouldn't recommend dashes but Matt Cutts says that the keyword-domain.com can rank for word 1 the first word word 2 the second word and the phrase altogether. So that is what is said about that. Good luck again!
always go for DomainName.com if that's available, if not then Domain-Name.com or alternatives like DomainName.net/DomainNet.org
But first choice should be DomainName.com always.
