Domain used by influencer as an alias

Hi guys,

I hot domain for online marketing niche. Unfortunately, an influential European photographer uses that exact name as an alias.

So he ranks like first 12 or more results in Google when I search for my domain name. All his social media accounts show up (Instagram, Twitter, etc.).

Should I just leave this domain? Considering I just planned to add not top quality content and promote it on social media to get traffic. This is not my main job and that photographer must dedicate 40h per week.

since you'll only use it for social media you're fine!

Furthermore, if you and the photographer use your domains for different niches (well, I'm guessing that you'll use them for different niches, otherwise things could get complicated) you're not going to run into trademark infringement issues either.

Conclusion: you're double fine, so use the domain as you want, but if you intend to rank it in google in the future you'll probably have a hard hill to climb to outrank that photographer for branded keywords since google is already associating the brand with the photographer's site

About ranking my domain, the thing is the photographer doesn't have a website with my domain name. He uses my domain name as alias in Instagram, Twitter, etc. And those websites are the ones ranking very high.

I search on Google by my domain name and what shows up is Instagram site with the photographer's alias, second result same but wirh TikTok, etc.

The man uses the alias and his real name as well on his social media accounts. What I'm afraid of, it's if somebody searches my domain, it will not show up because Instagram and others will.

From your initial post I thought that you and the photographer both had the same domain name but with different TLDs, and as long as the TLDs and niches are different there's no (legal) problem with both domains existing and being used simultaneously.

But now, it looks like you've actually acquired the EXACT same domain name that he uses in his social profiles, which means that it's probably his domain but he let it expire, or maybe he forgot to renew it, in which case I would give the domain up. But that's me, I am sure that some people would find uses for this domain, so it's up to you whether you want to use it

I don't know if he was using that domain. The dot com belongs to a marketing agency which broke. The dot org is mine. The photographer has a website with a name not related to my domain. It's his surname dot social.

you don't need to ask people what the best domain name for your business (or your personal needs) is, I doubt that anyone will know this. Just spend a few minutes to figure out the domain yourself with the help of online tools and catchy / ambiguous / suggestive words you might think of about your idea of good / fit name for the said business / personal needs.

If he is very popular, you should leave the domain. It is hard to outrank such domain because there is personal branding.
