Domain To Host Question

I purchased a domain from godaddy and I'm trying to redirect to my hosting account. Did I do this right? I went to godaddy under settings I clicked nameservers and put the 2 nameservers from my hosting there and saved. Is that all I have to do or am I missing a step I just want to make sure. I'm going to wait about an hour I guess.

Should be all you have to do. Sometimes it can take a few hours to push through.
Also try clearing your browser cache too.

Oh okay I don't need to do anything with the DNS do I?

DNS = Domain Name Server

So this is what you have updated when you changed the nameservers.

Godaddy update details in the database that is consulted everytime someone trys to access your domain. One piece of information is where the files for your site are stored, this is the server that you are using with your hosting company that your files are stored in, it's reffered to as a DNS (domain name server) because it's serving files for anyone that visits your domain name.

once you've updated your domain name server details in godaddy, and it has propogated (gone through the internet and been updated in the main database) then you're good to go!

You should wait 72 hours !

Open your CMD that is command prompt and type the following command


Hit Enter , You will find the ip address and match that ip address with your cpanel or server ip address .

To match your ip address ping the both nameservers like my one is

nsremium.wideinfo.org so cmd command


matches with the ip of my website https://iamsujoy.com/

ping iamsujoy.com

IP match is the starting 3 no.s means website hosted and if there is no match with the starting 3 no.s of ip then it is still in propagation !

This is what the host is telling me. Your domain is not pointing to our nameservers at the moment, so services such as FTP, File Manager, E-mail (and others) will not work correctly. You can find our nameservers at the "Accounts -> Details" section. Please mind that DNS might take up to 24 hours to propagate when the change is submitted. So I guess I just wait now and I did what you said. But when I go to godaddy I click manage nameserver and it says they are both active?

There are two databases that contain your nameservers, one is godaddy's database that is stored on godaddy's computer. One is the WHOIS which is the master record that tells every server in the world what your DNS is.

When godaddy says your name servers are active it means the details are live in their database. You still have to wait for the details to propogate into the main WHOIS detabase.

In practice if it's a .com domain, it'll usually update in 2-8 hours

Oh and what about the DNS Zone File on Godaddy do I put anything there? I can see a section where it says nameservers also but says 0 records ( 0 selected )

The under DNS Zone File I see a section that says A (Host) Do I do anything there or no?

Hi I just had an idea. When you set your hosting account up, did you input the domain name you are using here? Or did you not enter a domain name, or enter another domain name? If you didn't enter your domain name into your hosting companies computer you'll need to tell your hosting account that you plan to use it with this domain. Assuming you have done this already, but if you havent you need to go into CPANEL (if you are using a host that supports cpanel) and setup an 'addon domain'

If you dont do this your nameservers wont do anything when they get requests for the domain from a remote computer.

The zone file is created when you do this, and is stored in your hosting companies computers. There wont be an active zone file on godaddys side, as it's the host that controls the zone file. The zonefile contains records such as where the mail server are for your domain, etc.
