Domain Registration Question

I'm having some troubles registering a domain I want to purchase. If I type the domain in to godaddy or namecheap it says the domain is registered. When I try to pull up the whois data it's blank and says the domain name may be available to register. If I enter the domain into the URL box nothing comes up. Is this most likely a domain that has been dropped recently? And what's the best way to ensure I get it if this is the case?

Me personally, would go by the registrars. If they say it's taken, then it's gone. You might be able to back order it when it comes to expire though.

The most likely answer is that the domain has just dropped off and someone has registered it but it has not been fully processed yet.

I ended up being able to locate the info on who it's registered to. Thanks for the info and offer to help though.

I've had that happen as well. It was probably the whois site or server having problems.
