Domain Redirected--How Did this Site Do That?

I've been following a site that ranked number one for a keyword, then it suddenly disappeared from the rankings for a week or two. Then today, I notice a new site in the top 5 for this keyword, or so I thought.

I clicked on the site and it looked exactly like the site that used to rank number one, but the URL was different. So I typed in the URL of the old, #1 site and it re-directed to this site.

What I want to know is, how was this site owner able to redirect the old site to the new one without it bouncing back in SERPs in a week or two?

I also noticed the AdSense was removed from the old site a few weeks before it disappeared from the first page, now it's back on the new, re-directed site. I assumed the site owner lost his/her AdSense account? Could that be the reason for the whole re-directing business?

I think redirects give the link juice from the original domain to the old one, he might have waited for a week or so before redirecting, or it just took google that long to re-rank him.

He just wanted a new domain name and didnt want the visitors of earlier site to go waste, it also helped the new site to rank faster. Nothing to do with adsense.

Most likely got the adsense account disabled, bought a new domain name, slapped adsense on new domain, and redirected old domain to new one to get rankings back.

I've done it before, but G caught up and banned the new account within a month. Redirecting a domain took about a week for my new site to rank again.

You know, the old domain didn't have the exact keyword in the URL, but the new one does, so that could be a possibility.

This is what I assumed as I stated in the OP, that the adsense account was banned. Wow, so didn't know would penalize that sort of thing.

Overall, I didn't know the link juice would pass that quickly to a redirect.
