Domain Redirect Link Juice

Hey hatters, new member here, but have been a longtime lurker.

Question for the experts...

I started a blog about 9 months ago and it's going decently. It appears that I'm starting to get out of the sandbox and my traffic is currently at about 1,000 clicks per month.

I'm fairly happy with these results, but I'd obviously like to speed up the process a bit. For that I need backlinks, which I only have a handful of now.

I know if someone gets a quality aged domain and 301 redirects it to their main site they will pick up any link juice from the older domain. However...

Does that ONLY work when you're starting a new site, or can I still employ this strategy effectively being that I'm 9 months into the journey?

Obviously the aged domain will be in the same niche as mine, and I'll do a way back search to see if the domain was ever penalized, etc.

But have I missed the boat, or can I still give this a go?

P.S. - As somewhat of an SEO newb, please throw some tips & best practices my way...or at least some stuff to be cautious of.

It can be done later on no problem. However, later it involves a risk that you screw up your site if it's ranking fairly well already.

Sure, you can always take the redirect down if it's not working out, but from my experience, this constant redirect on/off shuffle is not helping the site much.

In such cases I would rather stick with some really creme de la creme guest posts.

Your site however is still very young (despite the very good job that you have been doing) and you are not in advances stages, so I wouldn't be too afraid of using the redirect.
