I have a question I need to get a clear question from? Heres my story. I'm trying to build a brand online on a certain niche so I bought a brandableunique.com. I also bought a exact keyword domain on the niche I'm building on. So I have a unique.com & a keywordkeyword.net. The reason I want to build an authority brand site is because I'm actually interested in this niche & has low competition and 6,000 m/o searches and I have side businesses related to this niche that I can promote from the niche site.

My question is since it's easier to rank #1 with keyword domains, should I use the keyword domain til I rank to #1 and then switch my domain to the unique one? Will my site still rank #1 for the keyword domain even though I changed the domain to a unique one that has no keyword in it? Or what about once I get steady visitors redirect the site to the new unique domain? Is any of this possible?

My whole site is going to be built on the niche and I'm planning on writing unique content everyday since I have knowledge in the niche. I hope I make sense and somebody can help me out and offer advice

Thanks In advance BHW

When you redirect your websites from your keyword to your unique you are going to lose some ranks. Keywords in urls can do wonders for your rankings, and I've seen sites rank solely on that factor alone.

I would built a website with all of your content on your keyword domain, since this has the most value from an seo perspective. I don't see why you need to use the unique because it really doesn't provide you with any value.

If the cm version of your keyword domain is parked, then just build your keyword domain up (because users that go to the parked page are going to understand this isn't where they want to be). If it is currently a functional site, you have 2 choices:
1. Build up your keyword domain and accept the fact that you'll lose a very small amount of direct type in traffic.
2. Build up your unique, but remember ranking will take more resources.

Since this niche has low competition ranking shouldn't be too hard regardless of the domain you have, but I'm still a huge fan of exact keyword domains because they look so appealing to users in the serps and the fact that ranking takes that much less effort.

I would advise you to pick a domain and stick with it all the way through.

There's no point to switch later on, and it will harm your marketing bottom line.

I do both types. My money site is always a unique name, what we call an exotic name that is easy to type, pronounce and remember. The keyword based sites are used for parts of a linkwheel to drive traffic to the exotically named money site. Both have value to the larger business purpose.

Keyword names sites tend to be long, multiple keyword, and very forgettable. A nice exotic name is so much easier for customers to remember.

Thanks for everybodys reply. I want to do something like bobbylove did instead of hiphopsongs.com you used thatkush which sounds more memorable and easy. Im trying to build a brand. my keyword domain is 20 letters long compared to 8 letter unique which is still related to the niche though but no keywords in it.

how much more time would it take to rank unique compared to keyword?

The keyword based sites are used for parts of a linkwheel to drive traffic to the exotically named money site.

Im trying to do the same thing as you using a unique to make it a long term money site.

can you explain this to me?

sorry if i sound noobish its cus i am lol
