Ok guys I went ahead and slapped down 3k for a domain that has:
DA-50 PA-60 PR6
15years overseas Newspaper site
ton of .gov .edu and links from sites like PBS BBCUK etc.etc.
80000 links, 2.4k anchors, 1.3k referring domains and 1.2k refering ip's.
no spam that I could find.
The domain never expired... lives on in my name now

my only thought is that I am going to be doing a simple 301 directly too my money site that is a blog about let say celebrity news and this domain was a government/worldnews site in an area of Mother Russia lol... So my questions is do you think I got a ok deal from what I have said, do you think it will boost my money site pretty good that already has like 200k back links and is there anything I should know before I do the .htaccess 301 for the domain...

Your input, tips and tricks is very much appreciated as this is my first go at the domain 301 game ;)

Cheers Mates!

Bump anyone... this is my first time doing it and could use some best practices/tips so I don't flush 3k down the toilet... I feel dirty ;)

Is it index in google?

I never purchased a domains of this size but if it was a newspaper site that sounds like a good reason it has a lot of links (less chance of a spam domain) but it does average 61 links per referring domain.

Hopefully someone else can help you out more here

I'm sure this single redirect alone will boost rankings of your news site for several keywords. Turn it on! Btw, What is the TF to CF ratio?

A domain with such metrics will do nothing but boost your site's authority and rankings. It's been almost a year since I 301ed an expiring/expired domain to my money sites so I don't have current information on whether it still works or not.

My advice to you is to implement the 301. If it doesn't work, you can turn off the redirect and use the domain for something else.

Yes it is indexed in Google... the weird thing is that it shows its links and links to domain.by when I put in site:name not sure why...

I checked the majestic and it is saying:
Backlinks 300,000
Ref Domains 2100
Ref Ip's 1100
EDU 300
GOV 4000
INDEXD URLS 140000
POSITION 298000
TF 29
CF 25

The CF to TF ratio looks good. What do you see when you type info:thedomainyoubought.com ?

You should not see the results for domain.by when you search with that operator. For ex, info:blackhatworld.com shows

I figured out that part...

Hmm I still see both sites but the weird thing is that the popular news site that is also showing in the serp results when I search site:mysite made a special subdomain just for the domain I purchased and in Aug of last year mydomain set the robots.txt file to no index and they forwarded the domain to the popular news site special subdomain they set up just for the site. Well, I am not sure what's up with that but I will update you guys just as soon as some time passes with the domain 301'd to my money site. *crossing fingers*

All the very best 420 and i am sure it will turn out better :) keep us posted

I've 301'ed to almost all of my sites with none related expired domains and never had any issues... It definitely helps the authority and ranking... I'd say go for it.
