domain privacy - how good is it?

say you have a website on a well-known hosting company and you have domain privacy enabled. How well does that really protect you (if at all)? Say Nike wanted my info, could they get it through my host?

Most domain privacy providers release the info if someone threatens legal action. Some are better than others, but it goes away instantly if actual legal action is taken.

Simply put, it prevents casual people from looking at your info. Nothing more.

like the guy said above, your never totally safe unless your using fake info to register the domain and proxies, etc.

Domain privacy is good to protect your identity especially if you're into BH stuff.... just don't break the law!

Domain Privacy is safe to protect your personal information. These information will be shown only till a legal person ask for it. there are many sites which provide domain registration with free privacy. You can enable domain privacy and check in whosixy site to see whether your information is hidden or not.

Be careful if you fake who the domain owner is. If you end up having to prove for some reason that you really own the domain it can be a nightmare...

AFAIK, domain privacy also protects the owners from needless spam mail.
