My current site is 5 years old, did some SEO on and off in the past, since I started guest posting, most the money keywords has been racked to the 2nd or 3ed SERP. But for the main money keyword (the most important one, KD 68), Its getting tougher and tougher to move up, (current position 17).
I studied all my competitors, on the first SERP, they are 3 .gov sites, 3 .org sites, and 3.com sites. The #1 site is a private .com site, and doesn't have a very strong backlink profile (DR 41, RD 435), then the #10 site is also a .com site, with very poor backlink profile( DR 1.4, RD 51. I actually know the owner, he never done any SEO or link building for his site)
But they all have one thing in common, they all have the money keyword in their domain names. And I think that's is why the #1 .com site could even outranked the gov and org sites stay at the #1 for years. However, the other 2 .com site on the first page, has very strong backlinks, near 2M back links and RD over 2k.
I have spent thousands of dollars on link building get get to where I am now, and still have a long way to go, and its getting tougher and tougher.
My question is, would it be much easier that I just invert the money to purchase that main money keyword domain name, Yes, that domain name is currently for sale for $xxxxx, and is the exact keyword. I know my other keywords may not rank like this one, but this main keyword almost has 55% the search volume of all my keywords search volume.
If this method is going to work, how long the site should start ranking? Once the new site move up to the first or second page, can I do 301 redirect to my current site? Will this drop the rank?
