It is not true.
Even though "hack" may send a negative signal to Google or other authorities, everything would still depend on the content of your site. For example, the name of your website is hackyourenemies and the content of your website is all about lawnmowers and cutting tools, would your website be automatically marked as spam? I don't think so.

The domain name doesn't really matter in SEO, it just either helps or hurts if your trying to do branding.

Absolutely bullshit, hack is like just another term which is now used for fake tools but was originally intended as some kind of trick in the normal dictionary.
I again checked and most of the hack sites are pleasantly ranking on search engine's.
I will check it again and they will be ranking.

I just googled "hack" and the very first domain has the word "hack" in it
