Domain Name Help

I was wondering if anyone has an insight of where I stand here. I recently purchased a domain name that is within my niche and is very broad. I was unaware at the time that another company has the domain title as their company name.

When I began work on the website they sent a legal letter asking for the domain to be removed as it was a conflict. Obviously, my immediate thought was, why don't they own this domain then?!

Has anyone got any knowledge of where I stand regarding this?

Have they actually registered the trademark ? It's hard to say what you should do without knowing the details.
Offer to sell it off to them, I can't really give you other advice right now.
