I registered a personal domain name subhojitchakraborty.com yesterday from 1and1. I changed the nameservers. Every-time I try to visit my website it's being redirected to http://www.subhojitchakraborty.com/defaultsite

I've tried clearing my cache and history. Nothing works. When I try to open it on my mobile it's opening fine and displaying the static sample homepage or front page. I can open the website fine via proxy servers on the net.

Update- It's now happening only 7 out 10 times :p On firefox it's displaying a blank page and on chrome it's showing an error page within my website. After consistent reloading the webpage is opening.

Someone kindly help me. 1and1 has completely ruined my day. Changing nameservers has been a hell of a job. Stay away from them if you want peace of mind or you know exactly what you are doing.

first of all you need to wait minimum 4 hours to 24 hours for the DNS to be propagated properly every time when you change them. if it is already more then 24 hours then first clear your browser cache and then clear your DNS cache by the following method

    Click Start.
Enter cmd in the Start menu search text box.
Right-click Command Prompt and select Run as Administrator.
Run the following command: ipconfig /flushdns.

if the problem is still there then you have to contact 1and1 support because if you are using cPanel based hosting then some time it is a bug in cPanel which always redirect a site to default page.

I think I found the cause of the problem..the DNS have not yet propagated to my ISP's server or DNS records or whatever.. I accessed my website by using the internet connection of my mobile on my pc and it's opening fine. [IMG] I ran the tracert command and found that when I'm using my ISP's internet connection my domain is showing the ip of 1and1 but after tethering it's showing the ip of the correct nameservers I intended to use :) Now I just have to wait and see when the DNS will get fully propagated. Thanks for your replying.

To check for sure if DNS has properly propagated, you can try a site like:
    dnschecker[dot]org
They tell you which IP your site points to for different countries.
So, you'll know how far the propagation has happened.

Also if you use your hoster's nameservers then changing to another hoster can take a long time.
Try using Cloudflare. You just need to point your nameserver to cloudflare's assigned one.
Then if you ever change your hosting, all you need to do is change your IP in cloudflare and it takes just 5 mins for the change to happen.
And best of all it's free :)

I wanna add that if you're not using google's dns on your home's internet connect then it's likely that your internet isn't refreshing cache as quick as google does. Try switching your dns so you don't run into this issue anymore.
