One example springs to mind:
Terry Kyle was ranking successfully for a good 14 months (all through Panda and through the beginning of Penguin) for makemoneyonline(dot)gb(dot)net.
He was top 10 of google UK for "make money online".
The site is down now but 14 month ranking position 2-5 on the first page of google an't bad. A quick google search will point you to training showing you how he did it.
